Serigraphy Workshop No.4

The Czech Screen Printing Association in cooperation with its partner, the Slovak Screen Printing Association, and with FESPA, the international association of screen printing and wide-format digital printing, hosted already the fourth creative workshop of screen printing.

This four-day seminar called Serigraphy Workshop No.4 was held on 25 - 28 September 2010 in the graphic arts workshops of The Secondary Graphic Art School and The Graphic College, Ltd. in the town of Jihlava. It was attended by nine trainees and three trainers who produced the total of 23 art serigraphies. The workshop was opened on Friday 25 before noon by the traditional opening lecturer Miloš Machurek, D.C.L, a kind of guru of Czech serigraphers. This lecture took place in the recreational facilities of the Jihlava art school in the Vysoká u Jihlavy holiday resort, where the workshop participants were also accommodated. After lunch, the participants left for school workshops in Jihlava, where they started their creative acitivities under the supervision of professional teachers.   During the next three days, they created the above mentioned 23 three-colour or four-colour graphics that were printed in an edition of thirty copies and subsequently compiled into files. Each workshop participant received one of these files. The remainder of them will be used for exhibition purposes, as a promotion of the Czech Screen Printing Association, and also as gifts for the event sponsors.

And what were the reasons which led the participants to sign for this event and how did they benefit from it? Hana Šedinová from the town of Mohelnice said that it was both her interest in screen printing and the enthusiasm from the previous year´s workshop in Dašice near Pardubice which led her to participate this year again. She considers this event very inspiring both for semi-professionals and professionals as well as for amateurs who are not going to make their living from this activity, but which is really a matter of heart for them. All workshop participants can actually share their own practical experience of the printing process and, in particular, see for themselves how the others work and what techniques they use. Subsequently, they can take this experience and possibly use it for their own creative work in the future.   Karolína Bendová, a student of Hellichova Secondary Graphic Art School in Prague, was motivated to sign for this event due to her efforts to discover and try out different screen printing techniques and gain experience in printing and graphic design. During the workshop she found out new facts about the history of screen printing and also learned to deal with problems that may occur in the course of graphics printing and creating graphic templates. Karolína says that, apart from the extension of the participants´ professional knowledge, the workshop also provides them with a few days spent away from everyday life when one creates for his or her own joy in a pleasant atmosphere, so this event is actually a kind of useful holiday.
